The Carlton Football Club is facilitating a series of workshops where inclusion, diversity and gender equality is the topic of conversation. Relationship Manager John Morris, Operations/HR Coordinator Stella Kounas and Marketing Coordinator Aimee Constantino attended the first of four workshops on the 16th March 2017.
The workshop opened with keynote speaker David Morrison, 2016 Australian of the Year recognised internationally for his commitment to gender equality, diversity and inclusion. David Morrison was the former Lieutenant General of the Australian Army and is renowned for ordering troops to ‘get out’ if they couldn’t accept women as equals and started a cultural shift that has changed the Australian armed forces forever.
David spoke about how inclusion, diversity and gender equality is everyone’s responsibility. He spoke about giving women a sense of belonging so they can reach their full potential by challenging gender stereotypes, reiterating that it is not about how we perceive our business but how others perceive your business. David spoke very passionately about leading with the head and the heart. The shift towards inclusion in your workplace is not only about implementing the correct HR policies and strategies but also through awareness in a personal level through story–telling. A favourite quote of the day “Culture eats strategy for breakfast every day!”
The second portion of the workshop included a panel of professionals who have begun the conversation of inclusion, diversity and gender equality in their workplace. The CEO of VicHealth, Jerril Retcher and CEO of the Carlton Football Club, Steven Trigg spoke avidly about the challenges, reasons, and tools they used to implement inclusion, diversity and gender equality in their company culture. Everyone was in agreement that organisations need to be bold and start the conversation and challenge the status quo. It may not be perfect but it’s better than doing nothing at all.
The MC Group is committed to integrating inclusion, diversity and gender equality into its company culture and has already begun its journey through corporate and community sponsorships with women in sport.
“Inclusion, diversity and gender equality is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s be leaders in it. We need everyone’s support and involvement in creating “her-story” says Marc Lunedei, Founder and Managing Director MC Labour Services
We are looking forward to attending future workshops and working towards a workplace free from discrimination, inequality and supporting the advancement of women in a male-dominated industry.
