Building and Construction Industry Employers and Unions Unite on COVID-19 Safety Message

Master Builders Victoria has united with other industry associations and unions to send a strong message to the building and construction industry: Treat this situation very seriously and with the highest importance by adhering to all the recommended safety procedures.

A united group of industry representatives stresses the need to follow appropriate measures and guidelines which stipulate strict hygiene practices, social distancing and separation of workers on meal breaks, in addition to other measures, to ensure sites can be kept safe and stay open.

As vital constituents of the economy, it is critical that all stakeholders of the building and construction industry work together to ensure the protection of employers, workers, their families and our community.

As government authorities continue to introduce new measures to contain COVID-19, these guidelines will be updated and modified.

MBV have provided a COVID-19 work site poster listing simple ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In a statement from John Setka, Secretary of the CFMEU’s Victorian and Tasmanian Construction & General division, released yesterday he explains that a taskforce as been formed – consisting of the CFMEU, MBV, AMWU, CCF, ETU, Master Plumbers, NECA and, PPTEU to tackle the issues around COVID-19 and to keep the industry open.

“There’s a lot of misinformation and confusion about this situation … There are a lot of rumours about the construction industry closing down, or being locked down. We are doing everything in our power – together with the other construction unions and the employer organisations – to be as proactive in keeping our industry and your jobs safe and secure”.
