How Can I Commemorate Remembrance Day 2020?

Every year – on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – we pause to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts, and peace operations.

We celebrate on the 11th of November each year to remember the fateful day in late 1918, after more than four years of fighting, when Allied forces finally broke stubborn German resistance and forced Germany to sue for peace. Entire nations celebrated as the fighting ceased, the armistice that ended the fighting in the First World War took effect at 11am on the 11th November 1918.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

This Remembrance Day, RSL Victoria is asking all Australians to Remember to Remember; to commit to pausing for one minute to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country, those who returned home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve our country today.

While circumstances mean we are unable to mark this year’s Remembrance Day by gathering together to honor our veterans, there are a number of ways we can still commemorate this day via online live events.
